Hmmm...can't say I can help you much, but you could play with the brightness and contrast of the picture in photoshop? If not, you could also manually erase the sketchy-ness?

Hmmm...maybe it's because your mode is set to RGB. Go to image > mode > grayscale. And everything will turn gray. After you finish your line art and you're starting to colour, go back to image > mode > RGB so that you can colour. ^^

Whenever I read something like this I always come across some strange feature I forget existed...like using curves to de-smudge! @___@!!! Its always nice to see how artists other than myself do things. Nice tips. :]

I really like how you went though different techniques on how to clean up the lineart. I always had to use the 3rd option you showed since I couldn't clean my lines very well and couldn't figure out the levels. I think I will definitely try the curves method next time. Thanks for sharing this. :D

If someone is a complete n00b at cg wouldn't you first introduce and explain "x" art software and what cg'ing is? This is more like a beginners guide bu.

My n00b days were mostly spent on figuring out you can work with layers, transparency etc.

You can also double click background to remove the lock

CG stands for cell-shade, which is a basic type of colouring :D Don't worry, I'm nearly done part 2, then you'll know what I'm talking about :D
